Security and forensic experts from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations have recommended the establishment of a unified digital platform to connect forensic laboratories across the region. The proposal followed the conclusion of the “Firearms in Forensic Evidence” symposium, organized by Dubai Police under the Ministry of Interior and reported by Xpats.ae.
The envisioned network is designed to facilitate greater knowledge exchange among professionals, enhance joint training programs, and expedite the process of tracing and identifying firearms linked to criminal investigations.
Major General Ahmad Thani bin Ghalita, Director of the General Department of Forensic Science and Criminology at Dubai Police, emphasized that the event demonstrates the force’s ongoing commitment to advancing scientific methods and modern policing standards. He noted that Dubai Police, in partnership with the GCC Police, is actively working toward unifying forensic systems and developing a region-wide database that tracks firearm fingerprints.
The symposium gathered over 30 specialists from GCC countries and international entities including INTERPOL and GCCPOL. During the event, participants visited several of Dubai Police’s cutting-edge facilities, such as the Smart Police Station (SPS), which offers multilingual, fully automated services for report filing and live officer interactions. Delegates also toured the Command and Control Centre, where they observed technologies such as 3D mapping, patrol tracking, and integrated emergency response systems that ensure rapid and efficient coordination during incidents.
