Xpats.ae reports that the Federal Public Prosecution has referred nine Arab nationals to court after comprehensive investigations uncovered their involvement in forming an organized criminal group responsible for committing serious offences that jeopardized national security, public order, and societal harmony.
The case originated from a complaint submitted through the Public Prosecution’s digital platform ‘My Safe Society’, in which a victim reported being kidnapped, subjected to indecent assault, and filmed while his hands were restrained.
Following directives from the Attorney-General, the Federal Public Prosecution promptly launched an investigation, gathered crucial evidence, and assigned the Federal Judicial Enforcement Office to execute necessary inquiries aimed at swiftly identifying and apprehending the suspects, while securing the tools and equipment used in perpetrating the crimes.
Investigations revealed that the accused lured the victim to one of their homes under the guise of resolving a financial dispute. Once there, they physically assaulted him, tied his hands, and held him captive for a week. During this time, they coerced him into signing debt documents, recorded explicit videos of him, and subsequently disseminated the footage across social media platforms to blackmail his family for money.
Authorities seized the vehicle and mobile phones involved in the incidents, which contained incriminating video material substantiating the group’s highly organized and dangerous criminal conduct.
The suspects now face charges carrying penalties including life imprisonment or capital punishment, as their coordinated criminal activity poses a direct threat to national security and stability.
Dr. Hamad Saif Al Shamsi, the UAE Attorney General, emphasized that maintaining the nation’s safety, stability, and public security remains a fundamental and uncompromising national priority. He reaffirmed the Public Prosecution’s unwavering commitment to upholding justice fairly, protecting lives and property, and ensuring that individuals who engage in crimes that endanger national security or social peace are held fully accountable before the law.
